How It Started
Emmett Till Louis was brutally murdered on August 28, 1955, at the age of 14. His murderers were acquitted because they were white, which caused an enormous public outcry. This movement became known as the Civil Rights Movement in America.
Ongoing Support
The ETLF makes their mission to help black youth define their place in today's society. Even though blacks are treated better, there is still a long way to go before there is complete equality. If we work together, we have to the power to replace the hate with acceptance and provide justice and peace for everyone. We must learn about the past to change and improve for the future. History tends to repeat itself, but we must not let that happen.

“We cannot afford the luxury of self pity. Our top priority now is to get on with the building process. My personal peace has come through helping boys and girls reach beyond the ordinary and strive for the extraordinary. We must teach our children to weather the hurricanes of life, pick up the pieces, and rebuild. We must impress upon our children that even when troubles rise to seven-point -one on the life’s Richter scale, they must be anchored so deeply that, though they sway, they will not topple. ”
- Mamie Till-Mobley, Emmett's mother.
